SECURITY SCREENING: Your pet comes out of the kennel, airline security staff look inside the kennel at everything that went in, THEY CAN DECIDE TO REMOVE ANYTHING THEY DON'T LIKE FROM THE KENNEL, they pat down inside it, and inspect what was attached to it, they check the size of pet against the size of kennel, and they run through a long checklist of items to do with everything about the pet, and the kennel. Whilst the airline is X-raying the kennel, your pet is examined for recent abdominal surgeries, which might indicate contraband/drugs/gems are inside your pet(s). Since 9-11, security has become more and more rigorous, and tightly controlled. Petflight takes all pets to our choice of veterinary hospital at least 48 hours prior to flight (longer for some destinations) - to destress your pet prior to this known ordeal, and if our vet has security concerns about your pet, they'll X-Ray your pet (at your cost) to be sure there's nothing inside that isn't part of your pet. Ziplocks will secure the door firmly to the kennel as a last part of this security screening process, and if all is found to be good, your pet will pass screening, and be ready for flight - IF NOT, YOU'LL BE CALLED, YOUR PET WILL NOT FLY, IT GOES BACK TO THE VET, AND EVERYTHING STARTS OVER AT YOUR ADDITIONAL COST. WHO'S FAULT IS IT? YOURS!
Rentals, Wooden Kennels, Temperature Controled, Fraud
LOADING THE KENNEL: We ziplock deep plastic sandwich containers to the inside of small dog and cat kennel doors, metal buckets in large dog kennels, in which ice cubes are poured before flight. The ice melts, the pet has water. We lay several sheets of newspaper in the bottom of the kennel, shred masses of length-cut newspaper about half the kennel deep. The shredded paper mats down over the journey - it's there for comfort, and to urinate/defecate in (they usually scuff that portion to the back of the kennel). Should you decide to provide material bedding, it will go under the paper but the purpose of the paper will be lost - urine soaks the bedding, and the pet will have little choice but to endure the rest of the journey in discomfort (thicker bedding is impossible for your pet to move). CLUMPING LITTER IS NEVER USED - IT GETS IN THE NOSE, EYES, WATER, AND IS SCUFFED OUT THE FRONT GATE INTO THE AIRPLANE AND INTO SURROUNDING KENNELS.
TOYS, COLLARS, LEADS, FOOD, BONES, ETC.: For dogs, we suggest you wear a T-Shirt and/or pair of socks, and give us this to go into the kennel. Your scent offers your dog the comfort of knowing you're close (cats don't seem to care, but a pair of smelly socks is something to gnaw their frustration on). NO BONES ALLOWED. Toys cannot have squeakers inside, no eyeballs, sewn on pieces, or parts that can become detached and cause a choking hazard. Collar, and leash will be bagged in a clear see-through bag on top, glued down, and duct taped in place. A bag of dry dog/cat food will be taped down on top, but apart from this, we ask you only to provide food that your pets are accustomed to eating for the duration of their stay at our choice of vets in Toronto before flight. THE KENNEL IS NOT A MEANS TO TRANSPORT EVERYTHING PET RELATED. EVERYTHING YOU GIVE US WILL POTENTIALLY BE GARBAGED AT THE TRANSIT POINT WHEN THE KENNEL IS CLEANED OUT, OR AT DESTINATION. BAGS, BOWLS, CLOTHING, BEDDING, NAIL CLIPPERS, TOYS, EVERYTHING THAT IS ON OR IN THE KENNEL (BESIDES THE PET) WILL POTENTIALLY BE GARBAGED. SO IF YOU WANT YOUR PET TO ENJOY IT AT THE OVERSEAS HOME, TAKE IT WITH YOU IN YOUR OWN LUGGAGE.
IS THE KENNEL SIZE SO IMPORTANT? REALLY? READ:
AIR VENTS In accordance with all the airlines, we fly pets in kennels that have air vents in only the top half of the kennel (not the roof, or the base of the sides, or the floor - these are not acceptable).
FRAUD: IF you are being told that you must pay more so that the kitten or puppy (you just bought) has to go in a temperature controlled kennel, or cargo carrier, then you are being scammed - there is no air to a ULD. All airlines know to put all live cargo (puppies, kittens, dogs, and cats, bees, birds, rabbits, horses, rhinos, lions, tigers, and bears, etc...), in to the temperature controlled cargo hold of the aircraft. If the airline doesn't have aircraft on that flight route that can handle live cargo, they will tell you so, and they won't book the flight for that reason. There is NO temperature controlled air freight containers for live cargo.
