BANNED BREEDS In countries you want to send to, some breeds are considered too dangerous to the public for them to be permitted entry. In other countries, the breed is not dangerous enough to be considered a 'guard dog', and are therefor not permitted entry. Airlines will refuse to fly some breeds because they have had too many of that breed die in flight, or because they are too dangerous to fly, even in a purpose built kennel.

Regardless how kooky, silly, adorable, and fun your dog or cat is, if the airline, the origin country officials or the destination country officials deem it to be a banned breed, it may be stopped before flight, it may fly but be stopped at destination, and then be returned (at your expense), or it may even be destroyed at your expense upon arrival at destination! We work on what you tell us the breed of your pet is; however, if there is a disagreement between your vet, and the vet that we use about your pet(s) breed/mix, our vet assessment takes precedence. The following is just an indication of breeds that countries and/or airlines refuse to take. Given the breed/breed mix(es) you tell us, we will confirm whether the destination, and the airline, will accept the pet(s) you advise. IF YOU/YOUR VET MISREPRESENTS YOUR PETS BREED, ANY NUMBER OF AUTHORITIES, INCLUDING OUR VET, WILL VERY LIKELY REFUSE YOUR PET. DON'T GAMBLE - ACCURATELY TELL US THE BREED OR BREED MIX OF YOUR DOG.

Banned breeds. Your Responsibility
IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ACCURATELY TELL US YOUR PET(S) BREED, AND IF MIXED, WHAT THE PREDOMINANT AND SUBSIDIARY BREED MIX IS. "BREED MIX" IS NOT ACCEPTABLE - THE AIRLINE MUST KNOW EXACTLY WHAT BREEDS YOUR MIXED BREED DOG IS. You live with your pet, we (and the veterinary clinic we use) don't see your cat(s) or dog(s) until mere days before flight - far too late to alert you that your pet looks too much like a banned breed, and can't fly until a DNA test is done, to be certain. DNA testing takes about a month to come back with a result. If there is no DNA test result, or breed certificate, what our vet assesses your pets breed/mix to be is the definitive decision, regardless of the results of a subsequent DNA test result. The terms on our contract stand. KNOW THE BREED OR BREED MIX OF YOUR DOG!

BREED MIXES really apply more to dogs than cats for airline acceptance, and destination clearance, but an airline will stop a breed of cat that they refuse to fly (brachiocephalics). If you're not sure what mix of breed your dog is, because (for example) you bought it from the pound, or had it given to you, it is very important to find out from your vet or (even better) get a DNA test well before flight. Your vet should have made an accurate assessment, but even there, one vet may call it predominantly one breed, and another vet may opinion differently. Example: The difference between a Bernese Mountain dog/Labrador mix, and a Rottweiler/Shepherd mix (it looks the same, but it's very different). Where you tell us you have a mutt with these dims and that weight, we can no longer quote - the airline must be made aware what they're flying - you must tell us. Your vet must be specific on the certificates they provide, and their assessment could stop the shipment from happening if there is even the slight resemblance to a breed the airline or destination refuses. Being deceptive only hurts you because your pet won't fly, or will be refused entry at destination (which is way worse because it will have got there, and now you're paying to return it!!) WHO'S FAULT IS IT? YOURS FOR NOT HAVING A DNA TEST OR BREEDERS CERTIFICATE PROVING BREED.
HOW TO FIND OUT WHAT BREED MIX YOUR DOG IS The first person you should ask is your vet; however, even vets can be a bit mystified. Just because your vet thought its breed might be "X" on their certificate doesn't mean your dog is that breed, it might be "Y". The one true measure of knowing for sure what your dog is mixed with is to do a DNA TEST. Accu-Metrics (located in Toronto, Canada, and all across North America) will send out a test kit, you swab, send it back, and within about 3 weeks you have a complete breakdown of your dogs DNA identification. Under no circumstances could you ever mis-declare a pet breed when you know it is really something else. Only you lose when your pet gets stopped at any point along the move by anyone who thinks it looks like a banned breed.
