Since September 11th 2001, safety screening has become more stringent, taking more time to accomplish as crates and boxes are X-Rayed, and/or searched. If you decide to forego a pet shipper's service, you will find yourself in the airline's noisy, beeping, banging, screeching, scraping, big and scary warehouse, taking your pet out of it's kennel, while the kennel is hand searched for explosives, weapons, drugs, diamonds, and electronic devices. When they are quite satisfied that the kennel is not going to explode, or hide something it shouldn't, then they decide if the kennel is acceptable for flight, and then if your pet is in the right size kennel, if it is a breed they will carry, if you put everything in the kennel it should have in it, on it, and securing it.
SURPRISE ! We've seen it dozens of times - we are at the airport, someone is privately trying to check their own pet in to an airline. They are surprised, and indignant that the kennel they crammed their pet in to is inadequate, their paperwork is incomplete, the breed is one the airline doesn't accept. They're late for their own flight, they didn't see why it's such a fuss to put their pet on a plane, and the airline representative is trying to explain because their documentation isn't CFIA certified, or that it's not even complete, their dog will not fly. When it is all together, the cost of the kennel that it should be flying in makes the freight two thousand dollars more, but they'll have to rebook some other month because their dogs' tests and exams will be out of date by Monday. If you think this is an overstated case, it's not - it happens all the time.
EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMALS have been pretty much banned from airlines due to an overabundance of misuse of the airlines' generosity. At one point, there were emotional support peacocks strutting through the cabin, rabbits, turtles, ponies, Saint Barnards (you name it), so now, if the airline will allow it at all, airlines require you get an original doctors' letter proving the case for just how emotionally berserk you get without. Petflight Inc., will not work on your pet move if its not in the appropriate kennel for it's breed, size, weight, and age, and stowed in the live cargo hold of the aircraft (not on the seat beside you, not under the seat in front, not in the cabin).
With a pet shipper, you forgo these last second surprises. Petflight is well aware of the size kennel your pet(s) have to be in (based on the dimensions you gave), we've been working (for at least the last month) with you and your vet to get perfected documents out of you, it's all been finished at our vet, certified, and we've confirmed all the perfect paperwork will be accepted at the destination, and (importantly) the airlines know us - they know that the pets we tender are healthy, the kennel is proper, the labels are correct, the paperwork is right, and that the pet has been de-stressed at a vet clinic for at least 48 hours prior to flight (longer for some destination). Avoid the surprises, use a pet shipper who knows what they're doing.
